Durham Christmas Festival {Dummy}
Mowbray Park is all set for the big Sunderland Festival of Light switch-on. Tickets are on sale now at just £5 per person with under 2s admitted free. Discounts are available for group and family bookings.
The easiest way to access to the park the nearest station for Metro is Park Lane directly opposite the main entrance to the light festival. It’s also a short walk from Sunderland Station too if you are in and around town beforehand.
A stunning light projection and dazzling new installations are guaranteed to brighten your dark autumn nights. As well as sparkling lights, the park will be full of events and you can read the full event programme.
Remember up to three kids aged 11 and under go free on Metro, with a fare paying adult all day everyday – a great way to save cash!
While the park itself will have food vendors and places to eat, if you’re looking for more variety why not head into Sunderland City Centre? With Classic Italians like Angelo’s Ristorante in Sunniside, or a burger bar-style eaterie like 808s on John Street, not far from Mowbray Park. In Park Lane there is also plenty of choice from Port of Call to TTonic for some food and drink before or after the lights.

Sunderland Illuminations is also happening this year, with the traditional display of lights festooned right along the seafront. With plenty of cosy indoor venues and the plethora of mini venues within Seaburn Stack the seafront is a great destination all year round. For the nearest access to Seaburn, use Seaburn Metro just 3 stops from Sunderland City Centre. Alternatively take a scenic walk across the Wearmouth Bridge and walk the length of the coast past Roker cliffs.
