Vertu Motors Arena is the home of the Newcastle Eagles basketball team. The arena is located on Scotswood Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7AF.
There are local bus services and a Metro service that can get you to the arena.
Metro travel
The Tyne and Wear Metro is a public light rail rapid transport system which operates over and underground across Tyne and Wear. There are 60 stations on the network. Serving Newcastle city centre, Sunderland city centre, Newcastle Airport and the seafronts at North and South Tyneside.
Central Station is the closest station to the arena.
Walking route
From Central Station: About a 20 minute walk.
Leave Central Station and turn left. Follow the road (Neville Street) for about 2 minutes. Walk through Times Square (Centre for Life) and cross onto Scotswood Road. Follow this path for about 2 minutes. Use the pedestrian crossing and continue along Scotswood Road for about 16 minutes. You’ll see the arena on your right.
Metro tickets can be purchased on the day of travel from any Metro station. Ticket machines accept both cash and card payments. Metro ticket machines also translate into 6 languages. If you’re travelling with children, up to three children aged 11 and under can travel free with every fare paying adult.
The cheapest way to travel by Metro is with a POP Pay As You Go card. You touch in at the start of your journey (on the yellow validator or gateline) and out at the end of your journey and you get charged the cheapest fare for your journey.
Rail travel
Newcastle station and Sunderland station have mainline rail links throughout England and Scotland. From Newcastle station you can transfer to a Metro train at Central Station. Metro services stop at Sunderland rail station.
Bus travel
There are local bus services that stop near to the football club. Tickets can be purchased direct from bus drivers on the day of travel. Commercial bus operators in Tyne & Wear, Northumberland and County Durham can also be purchased via their own dedicated apps.
National Coach travel
There are two main coach arrival points in central Newcastle:
- National Express bus station on St James Boulevard
- Megabus and Flixbus on John Dobson Street
National coach services also serve Sunderland, arriving at Park Lane Interchange located in the city centre. You can connect to Metro services from Park Lane Interchange and from stations in Newcastle city centre.
Travelling to and from Newcastle International Airport
Airport Metro station is attached to Newcastle International Airport. There is frequent Metro service that runs directly from Airport to Newcastle city centre. The journey takes about 25 minutes.
Travelling to and from Newcastle International Ferry Terminal
The International Ferry Terminal is located within walking distance of both Meadow Well and Percy Main Metro stations. There are quick and frequent Metro services that run directly from Newcastle Centre.
There is a dedicated bus service, the number 327, which runs in coordination to Ferry arrivals and departures that runs direct to and from Newcastle City Centre. The 327 drops off on Bewick Street, which is within walking distance of St. James’ Park ground and all city centre attractions.
