Metro car parking
Metro’s park-and-ride facilities make using the system easy if you don’t live within walking distance of a station.
There are major car parks at 10 suburban stations letting you switch easily from car to Metro to avoid city centre traffic jams, or any trouble finding a parking space.
Metro trains run at least every 12 minutes during the day from all stations with park and ride, and more frequently at peak times from Northumberland Park, Regent Centre and Heworth.
Stations north of the Tyne offer parking for just £1.80 a day; charges vary south of the Tyne. There’s free parking on Sundays at the following Metro station car parks: Callerton Parkway, Bank Foot, Regent Centre, Four Lane Ends, Northumberland Park, Hebburn, Stadium of Light and also at Kingston Park.
Car parking permits are available for these locations:
- Bank Foot
- Callerton Parkway
- Four Lane Ends
- Regent Centre
- Northumberland Park
- Stadium of Light
Apply for a permit using Car Park Permit Application form.
At Pay and Display car parks please remember to clearly display your parking ticket. Blue badge holders can park free providing their blue badge is displayed (check car park signage).

Parking is free after 5.00pm Monday to Saturday and all day on Sundays – you will not be able to pay using the PayByPhone service during these free of charge periods.

Through the PayByPhone app you can also pay for 4 week (£24.00) or annual (£295.00) digital permit by selecting your length of stay as 4 weeks or 12 months respectively.
