We’re introducing more electric buses across the North East, helping to create cleaner, quieter and more comfortable journeys.

Working with local operators Go North East, Stagecoach and Arriva, we’ve brought 95 new electric buses into service. By the end of 2026, there will be 113 electric buses running across the region.

These buses will operate on key routes in Chester le Street, Gateshead, Newcastle, Sunderland, Blyth and Durham.

Accessible and easy to use

All electric buses meet the latest accessibility standards, including:

• A dedicated wheelchair space, plus a flexible space for a second wheelchair or pushchair
• Audio and visual next stop announcements
• A hearing loop system
• External noise sensors when travelling at low speeds
