Bus travel

There are local bus services that stop near to the racecourse. Tickets can be purchased direct from bus drivers on the day of travel. Commercial bus operators in Tyne & Wear, Northumberland and County Durham can also be purchased via their own dedicated apps.

Metro travel

The Tyne and Wear Metro is a public light rail rapid transport system which operates over and underground across Tyne and Wear.  There are 60 stations on the network.  Serving Newcastle city centre, Sunderland city centre, Newcastle Airport and the seafronts at North and South Tyneside.  

Regent Centre station is the closest to Gosforth Racecourse .  If you’re travelling from South Shields, board any train and change at pelaw for an airport train. If you’re travelling from Sunderland board any train.

From Regent Centre station: About a 20 minute walk.

Metro tickets can be purchased on the day of travel from any Metro station. Ticket machines accept cash and card payments. Ticket machine information screens translate into 6 languages.  If you’re travelling with children, up to three children aged 11 and under can travel free with every fare paying adult.

Using a POP Pay As You Go card to travel on Metro will save you money (compared to buying paper tickets). You touch in at the start of your journey (on the yellow validator or gateline) and out at the end of your journey and you get charged the cheapest fare for your journey.

Rail

Newcastle station and Sunderland station have mainline rail links throughout England and Scotland.  You can connect to Metro services from Park Lane Interchange and from stations in Newcastle city centre.
