Stagecoach seeks views on changes to Newcastle bus services 71, 72 and 87  

Stagecoach is taking “customer satisfaction” to a whole new level with an in-person consultation service on proposed changes to services 71, 72 and 72A in Newcastle, designed to improve reliability across the network. New electric vehicles featuring air conditioning, USB charging points and audio-visual announcements will be introduced on these routes as part of the changes.

What’s being proposed:
Barrack Road – A limited stop service between Blackett Street and Cowgate would help save journey time, with passengers along this stretch able to use the more frequent 62 and 63 services instead.

City Centre route – Two options are being considered to reduce delays and improve reliability through the city centre. Full details of both options are available as part of the consultation.

Evening and Sunday services – An hourly Service 72 and hourly Service 87 would replace the current hourly Service 71 and 72, maintaining the connection between Newbiggin Hall and Westerhope.

Service 72A – This once daily service would be withdrawn, with the route instead covered via Cowgate as Service 72.
