Explore the coast with the Tide Tour

There’s no better way to spend a summer’s day than by the sea and with the Tide Tour, the North East coast is yours to explore without needing the car. This new open-top bus service runs between Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, taking in some of the region’s best-loved seaside spots and attractions along the way. Hop on and off as you please, and explore at your own pace. Here’s how your day could look.

Morning – start in Tynemouth

Start your day your way. Step back in time at Tynemouth Priory and Castle, where bus ticket holders enjoy 20% off entry; get up close with the marine life at Tynemouth Aquarium, with £2 off admission; or head straight for family fun at Tynemouth Park.

Midday – make a splash

For something more adventurous, hit the waves with Longsands Surf School and enjoy three hours of surfboard hire for just £10 with your Tide Tour ticket. Alternatively, head to CBK Adventures in Cullercoats for kayaking and paddleboarding, where customers can receive 10% off equipment hire using code GONORTHEAST10. Afterwards, relax with a coffee at Kahvi Coffee and enjoy 10% off when you show your Tide Tour ticket.

Afternoon – Whitley Bay

Plenty to choose from here. You can start by visiting the iconic Spanish City and receive 15% off at Trenchers Restaurant with your Tide Tour ticket; make a splash at Waves Leisure Centre; take a walk out to St Mary’s Lighthouse; or challenge family and friends at Whitley Bay Mini Golf and FootGolf. Tide Tour customers can also benefit from discounted Ease Card pricing at St Mary’s Lighthouse, Whitley Bay Mini Golf and Waves Leisure Centre.

The journey home

As the day winds down, hop back on the open-top bus, enjoy the sea breeze and take in the coastal views on the journey home.

Tickets and getting there

The Tide Tour is best enjoyed with a TNE Day Saver. For just £7.50 for adults and £3 for under-21s, you’ll get unlimited travel all day, allowing you to explore the coast and beyond on a single ticket.

Even better, kids aged 11 and under travel free on the bus during the summer holidays when accompanied by a fare-paying adult, helping make a family day out even more affordable.

And it’s not just buses. Your ticket can also be used on Metro and the Shields Ferry, making it easy to enjoy a brilliant multimodal day out. The Tide Tour also connects conveniently with Metro stations at Tynemouth, Cullercoats and Whitley Bay, making it easy to join the route from across the region.

Concessionary passes, and Network One multi operator tickets and passes (valid in Zone 3) are also valid for use on the Tide Tour. Please note that day, week and 28-day tickets which are valid on Go North East services only (All Zones, Newcastle & North Tyne, Tyne & Wear, Family) are not valid on the Tide Tour.

All the discounts listed above are available with any ticket or pass type valid on the Tide Tour by showing the paper ticket, app QR code or smart card.
